We went out last night, and spotted a band playing in a small cafe. We found parking and made our way out in front of the Cafe De Noel. At first we were hesitant to enter, the place looked packed and very small so we thought we'd give a listen from out front. But, someone inside noticed us inside, gave a smile up and waved us to come inside. Someone else noticed the person's gesture and then the whole audience was motioning for us to come on inside with very inviting smiles. We took a seat and paid our 1,000 yen cover charge, which includes a refreshment of your choice. I had a cup of coffee (which was delicious), Natasha had a Coca-Cola, and our friend Brandon had a cup of tea. Everything was brought out with about every accoutrement you could imagine to pair with each. The Coffee was served in an ornate silver rimmed cup and saucer, tiny spoon and a tiny pitcher of cream and sugar. The hot tea came with similar cup and saucer and a dish appropriately sized for a slice of lemon and small fork and mixing spoon. The Coca-Cola came in the old fashioned bottle with trademark rubber coaster and glass with ice. Unfortunately we came in the middle of their set, at their last song before a 10-15 minute intermission. One band member came over and introduced himself, his english was just about perfect as he had lived in New Orleans for 4 years. They started back up playing some classic New Orleans style jazz, including improv and vocal accompaniment. It was a great time, made us feel at home again, made me realize how much I miss being around and a part of music. They said they frequent the venue at least once a month. We'll be back for sure.
